My experience at the Upfronts 2012 with Paul Wesley:
I arrived at the NYC Center around 9:30 am due to getting stuck in traffic. A few fans had already gathered around the four barricades on each side of the street. So basically, I had no chance of getting a front place and had to stand somewhere in the third row. This allowed me to see every actor clearly and even talk to them. I could have even taken pictures with them, but weirdly I wasn’t too interested in meeting anyone except Paul.
So while we were standing around as the stars came by, my sister suggested that I make use of the plain orange poster that I had bought along. Since, I was stuck in the third row, I figured it was my best chance to grab his attention. So I quickly forced my way out of the crowd, sat on the ground, and made an impromptu poster that said ‘I love Paul Wesley. He deserves all the awards for Season 3’. And I was set. The wait began again.
Before he even came out, everyone started screaming his name. And I was about to die. As soon as he stepped out, he went straight to the barricade that was opposite of us. And the screaming and shouting began for him to come to our side next. Poor Micheal came to our side, and everyone kept screaming for Paul.
Paul is absolutely gorgeous in person. I have seen him before, and honestly the pictures do not do him an iota of justice. He is plain damn pretty. And his hair look like the softest thing in the world. And his eyes are magnificent — a mix of grey, blue and green. He’s tall, lean and skinny. And wait for it…the man had chest hair. SEXIEST THING EVER!
Then this happens. He finally turns around to walk to our side. And there I am…waving my huge orange poster above everyone else’s head. (mind you, I was the only one among the whole crowd who had a poster) And he slowly starts walking towards us, and I can clearly see him starting to read my poster as he walks to us. His eyes brighten up, and he starts to smile as he reads ‘I love Paul Wesley’…but stops in his tracks, in the middle of the space between the two barricades, to read the second part. And as soon as he read it, this huge smile lit up his face and he looked right at me. He started walking towards me and as soon as he was near us, he said ‘Awww that is so sweet. Thank you so much’. Everyone in the front started to realize that he was talking to me, so all of them started moving to let me in the front. I made my way up to him and he looked at the poster again and asked ‘Where do you want me to sign it?’. By now, my heartbeat was working overdrive and I think I just squeaked that he could sign it anywhere he wanted to. So he did. Then I quickly asked him if I could take a picture and he said yes. My sister took a picture of us…I added the picture but cropped myself out. Then I asked him if I could get a hug and he said ‘Sure’ and while hugging him I said ‘I love you. You are the best actor ever’. And he smiled and kept saying ‘your so sweet’. And it’s true, he smells amazing. After that, I moved to let the others get their chance.
He was absolutely jovial and amazing with the fans. Stopped to talk to everyone and was one of the actors who stayed the longest. He really is a joy to watch. And that’s what I did. I watched him for the next ten minutes as he went around to everyone and until he made his way into the building.
We figured that since I met him and did everything I wanted to, there was no point in waiting for everyone to come out again. Most of the fans started to leave. Me and my sister went to this breakfast deli at the end of the street. Probably stayed there for about an hour and decided to go shopping after. While walking to the store, we had to pass the building again.
And guess what? The exact moment that we reached the building, Paul was coming out. Talk about luck. So I stayed another ten minutes and watched him go to all the fans again and screamed a few ‘I love you’s’ again. And then he gave a final wave and left. Later, I found out that Torrey was in NYC too…and if I had known, I would have probably stalked him to the hotel just to meet that gorgeous woman. But oh well.
All in all, it was once-in-a-lifetime experience. I got to meet this flawless man, declare my love and support, get an autograph and picture and hug him. It was everything that I wanted. And fortunately, I get too see this insanely flawless person at the NJ Convention again this August. And I absolutely CANNOT WAIT. Every time I end up meeting him, I want to do it again so much more.
